"Tell us about your mother"

Wow, second blog post of the day! I'm really catching on with this whole NaBloPoMo. There are daily prompts for the blog posts. Since my blog is so specific, I don't think I will follow them all the time, but I may try to use them for a little inspiration. Today's prompt is "tell us about your mother." I'd rather not get into a whole psychoanalytical discussion about my mom, but I would like to put out there my idea to go on a road trip this summer - with my mom. I've wanted to go on a road trip for a long time now, and having recently felt quite overwhelmed by school and work, I thought this summer would be a great time. First of all, I'm only a freshman in college, so it is not absolutely crucial that I take an internship for the entire summer this year. Add to that the fact that I already have my own company and I could just work on that for the summer. I'm hoping to incorporate blogging, article writing, photography, video, my social media consulting (and a little fun), into the road trip. It would of course be environmentally themed - like pretty much everything else in my life. We would stop at sustainable landmarks, national parks, environmental conferences, anything that looks interesting, really.

We'll see where this idea goes. For right now it's just something to research when I get ridiculously stressed or worked up about school or gymnastics or anything else. It's a fun project to work on regardless. I've been pinning pictures to a special pinterest board which you can check out herehttp://pinterest.com/saraallan/dream-road-trip/.

P.S. I had a great Cities and Sustainability class tonight which reminds me that I need to write 2 more blog posts - one on the classes I'm taking this semester, and one on that great class!

  1. I'm very impressed by your ambition. I wish I had been so focused at your age. Your road trip sounds like it could accomplish some great awareness. Good luck.

  3. When I first glanced at the title of this post and the image you included, I over-interpreted them in light of the them of your blog and thought you were describing The Earth as your mother. Hey, for an environmental blog, that might just work!

BTW, I'm a fellow participant in NaBloPoMo. I also write about sustainability, but my blog, Crazy Eddie's Motie News, is listed under Politics instead of Education. Just the same, I'm looking forward to reading you this month!

    1. Thanks for checking out my blog! Keep stopping by to comment. Today, I tackle sustainability and the Super Bowl. On an absolute scale, a sustainable Super Bowl may just not be possible. On a relative scale, this year's is pretty good.

  5. Sara, I like your "more informal" posts. The road trip and the eulogy to your science teacher made me think of my experiences in high school. During our first road trip - from New York to Gaspé, my mother and I got to relate as good friends - and still are. The one teacher I think of the most was my French teacher who made the language come alive through art, literature, and best of all, la cuisine (one day he brought snails to our classroom to taste). He taught with a great love for the language and culture, and it is much thanks to him that I am now "living" in France (well, close by).
